Plants have been healing people for as long as there have been people. It's really only in the last hundred years or so that we drifted away from that knowing. Maybe you had a grandmother who kept these plants close. Maybe you already grow a few for the kitchen and never realized what else they could do.
I've spent more than fifteen years learning about plants here in northeast Arkansas, and this book is what I wish someone had handed me at the start. Not a textbook. More like a well-loved companion you keep on the kitchen counter or by your reading chair.
Come sit with me for a while. Let's get to know them together.

Chapter 7 · Chamomile

🌿 You want to know what the plants in your garden can actually do, beyond looking lovely.
🌿 You have a grandmother-shaped hole where plant wisdom used to live, and you want it back.
🌿 You are moving toward a more natural home and want to start somewhere simple.
🌿 You love a book you can read slowly with tea, then keep on the shelf as a real resource.
🌿 You believe tending a garden can be part of tending yourself.

I'm a gardener, a writer, a mama of seven, and someone who has slowly learned that tending a garden and tending a life are remarkably alike. Both ask for patience, a little faith, and trust that something good is happening beneath the surface.
I'm not a doctor or an herbalist. I'm a gardener who loves research, history, and plants, and I researched every plant in this book carefully before putting it in your hands. My hope is that it helps you notice what's already growing around you, and feel a little more connected to yourself along the way.
I'm also the author of The Cottage Garden Handbook, and I write about slow living, seasonal healing, and Sacred Becoming over at Barefoot & Bloom.

Join the Barefoot & Bloom newsletter and I'll send you launch-week plant notes, a few of my favorite simple remedies, and the monthly letter with moon phases, garden reminders, and gentle permission to slow down.
